Stand for Children – a bold and independent voice for public education reform – seeks an exceptional individual to support our national organization’s online efforts.

The Organization

Stand for Children’s mission is to use the power of grassroots action to help all children get the excellent public education and strong support they need to thrive. To date, Stand for Children’s five state affiliates (OR, MA, TN, WA, and CO) have won more than one hundred victories that have impacted the lives of more than two million children. We organize parents, educators, and other concerned community members into a strong, sustained constituency that:

  • Advocates for education reforms at the state and local level that improve student achievement, including increasing teacher and principal effectiveness, school autonomy, and instructional time;
  • Lobbies the state legislature for strategic K-12 investments and then ensures local school districts spend those dollars wisely;
  • Campaigns for school construction bonds, operating levies, and other local children’s needs.

The Position

Stand for Children seeks a highly motivated, team-oriented Online Marketing and Communications Associate to play a multi-faceted role in supporting the national organization’s expanding online efforts. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Creating and implementing digital marketing and communications plans to help Stand extend its reach and impact in the states and nationally
  • Managing social media accounts as an avenue for Stand for Children to stay connected to our supporters and gain new contacts;
  • Developing guidelines and best practices for using digital tools to organize, educate, and mobilize our members and supporters
  • Building communities of people interested in education reform
  • Creating and managing innovative online campaigns to complement states’ offline activities ;
  • Determining content and features for Stand web sites
  • Helping to implement 3rd party partnerships to expand Stand’s activities
  • Managing online advertising campaigns and search engine optimization and marketing efforts
  • Gathering and analyzing metrics to help Stand continually improve performance Working with a variety of stakeholders across the organization to develop, maintain, and execute digital communications, including field staff, state Executive Directors, and policy staff

The Online Marketing and Communications Associate will join a national team of professionals committed to improving children’s lives. Stand for Children managers and supervisors are empowering, entrepreneurial leaders who are committed to providing outstanding supervision in order for staff to develop as professionals.

Qualifications and Qualities Required

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience, especially online communications and marketing activities
  • Social media expertise and regular user of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites
  • Experience conceptualizing and determining web site content, features, and functionality
  • Strong planning and organizational skills; experience with project management; keen attention to detail
  • Online organizing experience a plus
  • Online advertising and blogging experience a plus
  • Self-starter with ability to gracefully manage multiple tasks and projects under deadline
  • Innovator who likes to tinker and try out new tools and technologies
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to follow through on commitments to others; accept and incorporate direct feedback
  • Exceptional customer-service orientation
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong commitment to Stand for Children’s mission to improve public schools

Salary Range
