Welcome to Stand for Children in Washington

Endorsed Candidates come out on top!

Stand for Children went all out for the August 17th primary and it paid off for our education champions.

Stand volunteers gave over 500 hours of their time and hit the ground running to support our endorsed candidates – thank you volunteers! Stand for Children was also in the top 10% of Washington organizations for campaign dollars raised and we invested in tactics that tipped the scale for many of our endorsed candidates on August 17th. Which candidates will go on to the general election and keep fight for our kids and our schools in the legislature? Find out!

Washington Misses Out on the Race to the Top

Thirty-five states applied to win some of the $3.4 billion federal grant (including Washington), and today 19 finalists were announced – Arizona, California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and South Carolina. Washington may have missed the boat in the Race to the Top but we know what needs to be done. Now – more than ever – we need independent leaders who will challenge the status quo to improve schools for our kids.

Where are we after the 2010 session?

The fast and furious 60-day regular session focused on education reform and was followed by a 30-day special session defined by intense negotiations to address the State’s $2.8 billion dollar shortfall. Check out a quick summary of the session, our accomplishments and the 2010 budget here.
